Our pizza was thawing. The inside plastic was beading with greasy humidity. Impressively, exposed to the sun, the pizza was warm and the cheese had melted to a delicious consistency. After my 7th fatal strike on the Oregon trail that week, I promised myself something: I would never die of dysentery again. More importantly, I’d never let any of my family or loved ones go through that awful death again.
